Polish and Fidelity
July 17, 2026
Fog Panther v0.8.1 builds on the v0.8.0 foundation with a sharper focus on text fidelity, color management, and everyday responsiveness. PSD text now imports and exports faithfully, layer effects update live while you type, documents open asynchronously without freezing the interface, and profile conversion now works across the whole document on a color-managed canvas. Dozens of rendering and stability fixes round out the release.
Faithful Text Interchange
Editable text now survives the round trip to PSD. Per-run character styling, paragraph alignment, all-caps formatting, line height, and baseline anchoring are preserved on both import and export, and free-font families are resolved to their installed variants so your type renders as intended.
A Smoother Text Tool
Editing text is now a more fluid, direct experience. Layer effects update live as you type, so drop shadows and strokes stay in sync with your edits. You can grab text to move it, double-click to jump straight into editing, and Merge Down now works correctly on text and shape layers, even when their content extends beyond the canvas. Redraws while editing are scoped to just the region that changed, keeping typing responsive on large documents.
Color-Managed Canvas and Whole-Document Profiles
RGB documents now display through a color-managed canvas for more accurate on-screen color. Convert to Profile and Assign Profile now operate across the entire document — every layer, group, and embedded object — with an option to flatten first to preserve appearance. Profile conversion of embedded smart objects stays non-destructive.
CMYK Channel Mixer
A new CMYK mode in the Channel Mixer mixes true ink plates directly in CMYK, giving print work precise, plate-accurate control over how channels combine.
Physical Dimension Units and Resolution
Work in physical units — inches, centimeters, millimeters, points, and picas — alongside pixels, with document resolution now an undoable property. Rulers and dialogs honor your chosen units throughout.
Gradient and Adjustment Refinements
Gradient overlays gain multi-stop gradients, a reverse control, and correct projected extents. Hue/Saturation adjustments now support per-color-range edits, imported and exported faithfully across the native format, PSD, and OpenRaster.
Performance
Layer dragging stays smooth on large and group-heavy documents thanks to an off-thread drag backdrop and a reworked fast path for nested layers. CMYK compositing runs in parallel across CPU cores, layer effects warm progressively without blocking the canvas, and zooming and panning reuse cached composites. Documents now open asynchronously off the main thread with a progress card, and fit to the window instantly on open.
Bug Fixes and Stability
This release includes a broad round of correctness work: more reliable undo and redo, hardened PSD and native-format readers, fixes to merge and flatten, corrected pixel math across several tools, and numerous interface refinements.
