Fog Panther v0.7.0 — Performance and Polish
April 15, 2026
Fog Panther v0.7.0 brings a major leap in performance, a dedicated Photography panel, PDF support built from scratch, and a long list of workflow improvements. This release is about making everything faster, smoother, and more capable - whether you are retouching portraits, designing graphics, or developing photographs.
GPU-Accelerated Filters
Filters can now take advantage of GPU acceleration for significantly faster processing. When an OpenGL 4.3 or Vulkan-capable GPU is available, supported filters offload heavy computation to the graphics card while the interface remains fully responsive. Filter previews update smoothly in real time, even on large images.
Brush Performance
Brush strokes are noticeably smoother and more responsive. Reduced input lag and optimized dab rendering make painting feel more natural, especially on high-resolution canvases. The brush cursor now renders as a system cursor, eliminating the visual delay between hand movement and cursor position.
PDF Import and Export
Fog Panther can now open and export PDF documents. The PDF engine was developed entirely in-house, purpose-built for reliability and accuracy without relying on any third-party PDF libraries. The import dialog displays page thumbnails and lets you choose the DPI for precise control over rasterization quality.
Gradient Tool
The Gradient tool has been rebuilt around live, non-destructive editing. Place multiple gradients on a single layer, adjust them interactively, and fine-tune with an end-opacity slider. Click to select any existing gradient, press Delete to remove it, and undo or redo every change. Gradients clip to the active selection automatically.
Rich Text and RTL Support
The Text tool now supports per-character styling. Mix different fonts, sizes, and colors within a single text block. Click anywhere on the canvas to start typing immediately. Full right-to-left language support enables Arabic, Hebrew, and other RTL scripts with correct cursor navigation and selection. A rotation control allows precise angle adjustments.
Free Transform
The Move tool gains perspective edge handles with linked corners for intuitive perspective correction. Rotation snaps to cardinal angles and 15-degree increments when holding Shift. A new options bar provides numeric entry fields for precise positioning, sizing, and rotation.
CMYK Workflow
A complete ICC-based CMYK color management pipeline. Soft-proofing simulates how your image will look on a specific output device, and gamut warning highlights colors that fall outside the printable range. Per-channel CMYK curves give you fine control over each ink channel for precise print preparation.
Photography Panel
Photographers can now develop their images directly inside Fog Panther. The new Photography panel brings the essential raw-development workflow into the editor - white balance correction, exposure and tonal recovery, presence adjustments like clarity and dehaze, and a tone curve — all non-destructive and updating live on the canvas. No need to switch between a separate raw processor and your editor; the full develop-to-retouch pipeline lives in one place.
Auto Adjustments
Three new one-click corrections under the Image menu: Auto Color neutralizes color casts with per-channel balancing. Auto Contrast maximizes tonal range. Auto Tone adjusts each channel independently for balanced exposure. All three are fast ways to improve an image before diving into manual adjustments.
Drag and Drop
Drop image files directly onto the canvas to place them as embedded layers, ready to position and transform. Drop files onto the tab bar to open them as new documents.
Clipboard
The clipboard now accepts WebP, AVIF, and SVG content, making it easy to paste images from web browsers and other applications in modern formats.
Smart Select
The Smart Select tool is now faster, using multi-core processing to compute edge maps in parallel. Selecting complex regions with well-defined edges is noticeably quicker on multi-core systems.
16-Bit Depth
PSD import and export now fully supports 16-bit color depth, preserving the full tonal range of high-bit-depth documents. Loading 16-bit PNG, TIFF, and camera RAW files is also significantly faster thanks to optimized bulk row processing.
UI Refinements
Menus and the toolbar now feature a frosted-glass blur effect for a modern, polished appearance. A thinner custom titlebar reclaims vertical space. HiDPI-aware cursors look crisp on high-density displays. File previews in the desktop file manager are larger and more detailed.
Bug Fixes and Stability
Dozens of bugs have been resolved across the application. Fixes include the Healing Brush and Clone tool source point setting, Spot Healing producing opaque black strokes on empty layers, camera RAW files being misdetected as TIFF, false keyboard shortcut conflicts for grouped tools, and filename extensions not syncing when changing file filters in the Save dialog. Security hardening addresses integer overflows and bounds checking throughout the codebase.
